The Hickory Crawdads put together enough offense early and then turned it over to the pitching staff to collect a 3-2 win over the Augusta GreenJackets Thursday night at SRP Park.
Hickory (14-16) leads the series against Augusta (15-15) 2-1.
Defensive miscues played a role in creating runs for Hickory. The Crawdads scored single runs in three of the first four innings to build a 3-0 lead. Two of them were unearned.

The Crawdads completed their scoring in the fourth, when Wady Mendez doubled and later scored on sacrifice from Angle Arredondo.
Crawdads starting pitcher Caden Scarborough held the GreenJackets without a hit until two outs in the fourth inning. Nick Montgomery put Augusta on the board with his third home run of the season.
Scarborough left after the fourth with five strikeouts and only two baserunners allowed.
Dalton Pence tossed two innings in relief of Scarborough and struck out four. Kai-Noa Wynyard completed the final three innings for the Crawdads. The righty allowed one hit and struck out five. Wynyard did have to work out of trouble in the ninth after Owen Carey led off with a single and Eric Hartman was hit by a pitch. However, Wynyard needed just seven pitches to get the final three outs and pick up his first save of the season.
