A Maggie Valley man is in jail under a $1.5 million bond for several child sex charges in Burke County.

Joshua Brier Nations, 27, was charged with six counts counts of statutory rape of a child 15 years or younger, two counts of statutory sex offense with a person 15 years old or younger, solicitation of child by computer and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to documents filed at the Burke County Courthouse.

Court documents allege Nations had sex with a minor, contacted the minor on a computer to arrange a meeting to have sex and gave the minor alcohol. The victim was 13 years old.

Nations made his first appearance in Burke County District Court on Thursday, May 8.

He told Judge Amy Sigmon Walker he would hire his own attorney.

Nations initially was held without bond, but a judge set his bond at $1.5 million Wednesday. He’s due back in court May 29 for a probable cause hearing.

The Maggie Valley Police Department, ÈÕ±¾ÎÞÂë Public Safety and Burke County Children’s Advocacy Center all assisted with the case.
